Spotting scopes see objects that are too far away for binoculars.

At the range, spotting scopes help you see exactly where your shots are hitting on the target andlet you adjust your scope for maximum accuracy. Use either a sandbag or small tripod to keep the spotting scope steady. Often shooters at a range will have a friend use the spotting scope and call out bullet impacts so the shooter can make adjustments to their riflescope.

In the field, spotting scopes are superior to binoculars when it comes to glassing due to their extremely high magnification. Glassing is a technique that enables you to cover ground without walking it yourself. To glass, simply find a comfortable position at a higher elevation, settle in, use a good rest—like a tripod mount—and let your eyes do the wandering. It’s amazing what you will see from your vantage point.
